Essential Functions

  • Develop, plan, prepare, and implement course content, format, structure, schedule, and individualized program for students.
  • Create activities and lesson plans focusing on visual efficiency, tactile symbols, braille, assistive technology, auditory skills, social skills, use of near and distance low vision devices, and other areas of the core curriculum.
  • Adapt materials by registering eligible students with the Kentucky Instruction Material Resource Center (KIMRC).
  • Facilitate students' growth by developing gross and fine motor skills, sensory skills, and basic concepts.
  • Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunities.
  • Supervise the behavior and well-being of students in the classroom and all educational settings.
  • Administer discipline when appropriate.
  • Monitor student learning and progress to evaluate the success of educational approaches, specialized instruction, support, and services.
  • Communicate progress, needs, and eligibility with parents and staff as needed.

Certification

Certificate for Teachers of Exceptional Children - Grades K-12 with an endorsement for teaching visually impaired pupils.
