Responsibilities
- Deliver direct, instruction to students through push-in, pull-out, or in class small group models
- Design and implement differentiated lessons aligned to students’ academic needs and grade-level curricula
- Provide small-group and individual academic intervention in reading, writing, math, executive functioning, or other areas of need
- Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies (e.g., structured literacy, UDL, multisensory approaches)
- Partner with general education faculty to plan and facilitate inclusive lessons
- Consult regularly with classroom teachers, learning specialists, counselors, and administrators regarding student needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students and families; participate in parent-teacher conferences and IEP meetings
- Liaise with outside providers (psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, resource room providers, tutors) and home-school districts as needed
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Support Services and Lead Educational Psychologist to refine school-wide support systems and policies
- Administer, score, and interpret educational assessments to inform instruction
- Review psychoeducational evaluations and other outside reports
- Maintain confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and school policy
- Prepare reports, summaries, and accommodation letters as required
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or certification in special education, reading/literacy, curriculum & instruction, or a closely related field required
- NYS special education certification required
- 7+ years of experience in PreK–12 education, including direct work with students with learning differences across multiple age groups required
- Working knowledge of Section 504, IDEA, and NYSED regulations as they apply to independent schools strongly preferred
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; a natural ability to build trust across a diverse school community strongly preferred
- Prior experience in an independent or private school environment strongly preferred
- Training in structured literacy, executive functioning coaching, or UDL required
- Belief in the value of all types of diversity, equity, and an inclusive, positive, and student-centered environment required

- Knowledge of Google Suite and Blackbaud required
- Ability to develop trusting, supportive relationships with students required
