Visual Arts Teacher

Full-time faculty at New Hampton School participate in all facets of boarding school life. Believing teachable moments occur in a variety of venues, the school asks each faculty member to work in the classroom, in the co-curricular arena, as an advisor, and in the residential life program. Additionally, faculty members are expected to be role models for the adolescent community.

The position is salaried and includes applicable benefits in accordance with School policy. Faculty work throughout the academic year and engage with students through academic, school life, and co-curricular programs.

Responsibilities

• Support the School’s mission, vision, and values.
• Attend orientation sessions, faculty and departmental meetings, service-learning days, professional development activities, weekend events, Project Week, and periodic community events, as well as all-school functions including required meals, community meetings, and commencement ceremonies.
• Teach four content area classes, tutor during five class periods, or the equivalent.
• Advise students following the protocols defined in the “Advising” handbook.
• Perform residential life duties as a member of a five-person team.
• Provide co-curricular responsibilities during a minimum of two seasons.
• Perform one other duty as assigned by the Head of School.
• Be familiar with school policies, rules, and regulations, and comply with the School’s health and safety policies.
• Be flexible with changes to job responsibilities that could be due to health and safety protocols and student enrollment.
• Work a six-day schedule, including Saturdays during the academic year.
• Participate in required professional development opportunities.
• Participate in committee service, vacation preparations, and student transportation.
• Engage in summer preparation for the academic year by completing required pre-work for New Faculty Orientation (as applicable) and the annual faculty summer reading.

Qualifications

• Minimum of bachelor’s degree and expertise in subject area.
• Passion for learning new technology skills.
• Commitment to life-long learning.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Successfully complete a criminal and motor vehicle background check.
