Visual Art Teacher (Central High School)

About the role

Kansas City Public Schools seeks a Secondary Visual Art Teacher to instruct students in art courses.

Responsibilities

• Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
• Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
• Assigns lessons and corrects homework.
• Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
• Maintains discipline in classroom.
• Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
• Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
• Sponsors one or more activities or student organizations.
• Aids pupils in selecting course of study.
• Counsels students in adjustment and academic problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from four-year college or university.
• Missouri State Certification in Art (K-12).

Success Factors

• Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching secondary level students.
• Teaching experience in urban schools.

Physical Demands

• Sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers;
• Bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds.
• Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
