VistA/VA Systems Integration Engineer

About the role

Tria Federal is seeking a VistA/VA Systems Integration Engineer to join our team. This position will be located in Arlington, VA and will be a hybrid role.

Responsibilities

• Manage interdependencies between multiple VA IT systems
• Aid project managers with implementing enterprise cloud integration
• Aid project managers with the development of high-quality responses to internal and external information requests
• Oversee VistA deployment and patching, from the OS level up
• Participate in formal SDLC, particularly agile
• Understand and adhere to VA patch and release processes for VistA
• Work with Intersystem technology stack (Caché, Ensemble)
• Engage in VA integration, including VistA
• Develop APIs, RPCs, and clinical application code using Caché, MuMPs, or COS (Caché Object Script)
• Utilize XML, XSLT, JSON, or other data formats
• Manage relational & non-relational databases such as MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, Mongo DB, Dynamo, Cassandra
• Communicate with brevity and clarity, both orally and through written communication, to management and co-workers
• Drive tasks to completion and take ownership of projects
• Prioritize competing responsibilities
• Multi-task and work independently, with minimal supervision and direction
• Handle multiple tasks effectively
• Have or obtain a VA Tier 3 Public Trust clearance
• Handle HL7 Messaging and standards
• Be familiar with FHIR, HTML5/CSS, Restful Web Services, Postman
• Understand HealthShare and Health Insights
• Have experience with object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithm design, and complexity analysis
• Design, implement, and use RESTful Web Services in a Microservice Architecture
• Translate design mockups and prototypes into working application designs
• Be familiar with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Unix shell scripting
• Understand version control principles, preferably using Git
• Have experience with Agile Frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban
• Have experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, and Automated Testing
• Independently take projects to completion
• Maintain program data and documents on several web-based reporting tools, including SharePoint and IBM Rational tools
• Prepare and maintain Veteran-Focused Intake Process (VIP) documentation for VA Office of Information & Technology (OI&T) projects
• Translate technical information from disparate sources into executive-level communications
• Adhere to standard operating procedures for program activities and identify process improvements
• Facilitate meetings with VA employees and capture meeting minutes
• Work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience with VistA deployment and patching, from the OS level up
• Experience with formal SDLC, particularly agile
• Knowledge of VA patch and release process for VistA
• Experience with Intersystem technology stack (Caché, Ensemble)
• Experience with Veterans Administration (VA) integration, including VistA
• Experience developing APIs, RPCs, and clinical application code using Caché, MuMPs, or COS (Caché Object Script)
• Familiarity with XML, XSLT, JSON or other data formats
• Ability to communicate with brevity and clarity, both orally and through written communication, to management and co-workers
• Passionate and motivated self-starter that excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring only limited supervision
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
• Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities
• Ability to have or obtain a VA Tier 3 Public Trust clearance
• Experience with HL7 Messaging and standards
• Experience with FHIR, HTML5/CSS, Restful Web Services, Postman

• Experience with TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Automated Testing

• Experience working in a fast-paced and agile development environment
• Experience with Federal Government, preferably with the Veteran’s Administration (VA)
• VIP and Rational Tools experience highly preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
• Experience working with the following software products: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft® Office Suite, i.e. Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook/Access/MS® Project, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Visio, IBM Rational Tool Suite, Skype, WebEx, WinZip
• Experience working in a consulting environment and understanding of client/customer relations
• Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple assignments at once, and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
• High attention to detail
• Experience producing quality, visually interesting communications products for public consumption
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required
• 8+ years’ professional experience in Software Development
• VIP and Rational Tools experience highly preferred

Qualifications

• Prior experience working on a VA OI&T development project is mandatory
• Experience working with enterprise cloud integration highly preferred
• A Senior Developer must be able to create logical and functional software code in a variety of languages
• Must have experience in understanding and articulating the benefits and risks associated with different coding languages in different functional environments
• Must have experience reacting to problems and correcting the program as necessary
