About the role

This position is the first point of contact for visitors, and therefore responsible for the initial museum experience. This position is the point-of-sale for admission, membership, some parking collection, and some store sales. This position also supports the organization by answering questions of visitors, selling admissions and informing/selling memberships and other program offerings to visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors with a positive customer service attitude
  • Transact admission, membership, and store sales utilizing the Altru point-of-sale system
  • Provide overview of rules while visiting the museum and answer questions
  • Perform clerical functions or preparing information packets in the absence of other work or other staff, such as answering phones

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: One (1) year of clerical or fiscally related experience such as bank teller or retail salesclerk, or equivalent experience. AND Able to sit and stand for long periods of time, handle cash, multi-task, provide accurate information about museum exhibits, events and programs, admissions and parking rates, etc., and compose, send and respond to electronic mail.

Desired/Preferred: Knowledge and experience working with Altru point of sale system, experience working in a museum – clerical, fiscal or admission counter capacity for one year or more.

Schedule

On-call, days and times vary, shifts offered are potentially Monday through Sunday 9:45am to 5:15pm. Evenings, weekends, and some holidays may be offered as necessitated by events, exhibits or festivals. Depending on availability, total monthly hours will not exceed 69.

Benefits

Although this position is not eligible for medical and retirement, it is eligible to accrue annual and sick leave based on hours worked. Holidays may be paid based on the hours worked in the same month.
