About the role
The Reading Terminal Market Visitor Center will open in June 2026 to serve visitors at one of Philadelphia’s busiest downtown tourism hubs. The Visitor Center Supervisor will be part of the team launching a new location and set the tone for enthusiastic Philadelphia spirit and a proactive, partner-oriented approach to daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise part time staff and volunteers working at the Reading Terminal Market Visitor Center.
- Provide high level of customer service and knowledge of Philadelphia history, and contemporary attractions;
- Carry out concierge duties, with a priority focus on the Reading Terminal Market Visitor Center.
- Facilitates duties for incoming retail inventory; ensuring updated counts, barcode labeling, and stocking locations (store fronts and storage).
- Maintain inventory levels and re-merchandise daily to maximize sales and celebrate local vendors. Work collaboratively with Retail Manager to provide consistent communication and support in managing retail operations, including product trends, inventory levels, and anticipated needs.
- Work collaboratively with RTM leadership and Market vendors to provide visitors relevant, engaging, and up to date information about sales, special offers, and market operations.
- Ensure retail displays are presented according to planograms (POGs) and Retail Manager’s approved merchandising strategy.
- Support and maintain retail databases (Shopify, other).
- Provide friendly, informed, visitor services as lead staff member at the new Reading Terminal Market Visitor Center.
- Ensure the Reading Terminal Market Visitor Center is well stocked with relevant maps, brochures, and information about area attractions.
- Operate as a key “power user” for point-of-sale (POS) systems of all locations.
- Create and maintain the staff and volunteer schedule for the Reading Terminal Market Visitor Center with support from the Senior Director of Visitor Services.
- Serve as supervisor for Reading Terminal Market Visitor Center VEAs; receiving staff call outs, approving staff time sheets, and reporting disciplinary actions.
- Develop and maintain operational understanding of all PVCC locations to ensure adequate knowledge and support.
- Provide feedback to Visitor Services management staff on employee concerns, operation needs and other areas in need.
- Provide cash management (cash drawers, closing duties, bank deposits) as warranted. Support pop-up visitor centers, events and new programs.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the Philadelphia area, and its food vendors, cultural attractions, and hospitality industry.
- Hospitality experience
- Computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with POS (point-of-sale) systems.
- Retail experience (including receiving and processing inventory, stocking)
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Experience with cash handling
- Experience in hospitality or other fast-paced, customer-facing environments.
- Valid Driver’s License with Real ID required
- Able to lift 45 lbs.
