Visiting Professor of Chemistry

About the role
This position reports to the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences & Mathematics. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate-level courses and laboratories in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Programs. As a faculty member, you will participate in curriculum development and assessment, advise students, serve on university and area committees, and support the policies and mission of the University. Additionally, you will contribute to scholarship, grant writing, research, publishing, and community service while maintaining professional development.
Responsibilities
- Teach the required workload credits per semester in the undergraduate programs.
- Actively participate in School and University-related activities, committees, accreditation processes, curriculum development, and assessment.
- Engage in scholarship, grant writing, research, publishing, and community service.
- Advise students and develop a professional development plan that promotes scholarship, community service, and lifelong learning.
- Remain current with the latest industry practices, standards, equipment, research, and technology in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
- Establish and maintain membership in professional societies and organizations.
- Some holiday and weekend work may be required.
Requirements
- Assistant Professor: A Ph.D. from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or Biochemistry is required.
- Lecturer: A Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant teaching and/or research experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a combination thereof.
- Experience teaching General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and/or Physical Chemistry. Particular weight given to the ability to teach Organic and Physical Chemistry.
- Proficiency in using technology to support in-class and online learning environments.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the university.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), and related software for teaching, advising, and assessment (e.g., Self Service, Stellic, Weave).
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality.
- High integrity and ethical standards.
Physical Requirements
- Duties involve light work in an office and community setting with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills and finger dexterity.
- Must be able to communicate information and ideas effectively.
Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (Monday–Friday) is the general rule. However, depending on project cycles and workflow demands, additional hours or schedule changes may occasionally be required. Must be willing to work occasional nights, weekends, and a varying schedule.
