The Counseling Program at UNT Dallas prepares multi-culturally competent counselors and change agents who promote wellness in children, adults, families, schools, and communities. The program offers two CACREP-accredited master’s programs: school counseling and mental health counseling. Students are mentored by dedicated faculty with extensive experience as licensed practitioners and in research, undergoing authentic experiential and evidence-based training.

About the Role

UNT Dallas is seeking a Visiting Lecturer in the Counseling Program for a 9-month, non-renewable appointment beginning September 1, 2026. This position is part of our Classroom to Career initiative, which integrates experiential learning—such as internships, service learning, and project-based collaborations—into students' academic journeys. The role includes teaching a four-course load each semester (12 hours total), student advisement, and participation in department and school meetings. The selected candidate will provide graduate students with professional, administrative, service, and research experiences to complement their academic studies and enhance career readiness.

Responsibilities

• Teach four graduate courses per semester.
• Engage students in learning inside and outside the classroom, including service learning, experiential learning, practicum, and active research.
• Coordinate opportunities for students with community partners.
• Advise Human Services Management and Leadership (HSML) majors on their degree plans.
• Participate in student recruitment, program assessment, and program development activities.
• Attend and contribute to department and school meetings.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program or equivalent.
• Eligible for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas.
• Proven teaching excellence in graduate instruction and demonstrated clinical competence in school counseling.
• Documented professional counselor identity as evidenced by education, teaching, clinical experience, and professional affiliations (e.g., American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision).

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated clinical competence in counseling supervision.
• Professional school counseling experience.
• Familiarity with CACREP standards.
• Experience with collaborative grant development.
• Counseling skills, including knowledge of statistics, diversity, and addiction.

Skills

• Experience working in a campus environment with culturally diverse students, staff, and faculty.
• Strong instructional design and course development skills.
• Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
• Ability to facilitate engaging online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
