Department Summary

The Counseling Program at UNT Dallas prepares multi-culturally competent counselors and change agents who promote wellness in children, adults, families, schools, and communities. The program offers two CACREP-accredited master’s degrees: school counseling and mental health counseling. Students receive mentorship from faculty with extensive experience as licensed practitioners and researchers, undergoing authentic experiential and evidence-based training.

About the Role

UNT Dallas is seeking qualified individuals to establish a pool of talented adjunct instructors for our growing counseling programs. Selected candidates will teach master's-level counseling courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats using the Canvas learning management system. Teaching opportunities may include Group Counseling, Family Counseling, Substance Abuse Treatment, Professional School Counseling, Practicum in School Counseling, and Career Counseling. Additional opportunities may arise as the program expands.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging instruction in online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats.
• Integrate real-world human services experience into classroom instruction.
• Assess student learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback.
• Create supportive learning environments for all students.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to meet academic demands.
• Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate course requirements.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Counselor Education or a closely related field from a CACREP-accredited university.
• Active status as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a minimum of two years of experience or equivalent licensure in a counseling field.
• Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
• Strong instructional design and course development skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to mentor students and work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• For School Counseling positions: Texas School Counselor Certification and a minimum of three years of school counseling experience, including supervision responsibilities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of TEA requirements and active memberships in state and national school counseling organizations.
• For Clinical Mental Health positions: Substantial experience in group counseling and family systems approaches, along with a proven record of teaching diverse individuals.
• Experience working in various academic settings and thorough knowledge of CACREP standards.
• Active memberships in state and national professional organizations.
• Bilingual skills are highly valued.

Pay

$3,500.00 per course
