Visiting Instructor, Capstone Mentor (Temporary Employee Pool), Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program

Primary purpose: The School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applicants for a part-time, non-tenure position as an instructor and capstone mentor in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program. This role focuses on teaching and guiding students through the Capstone experience within a biopsychosocial framework, promoting student learning in a humanistic environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach or co-teach online, hybrid, or in-person courses in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities.
• Create or co-create online, hybrid, or in-person course content and materials in areas of expertise.
• Foster a student-centered learning environment.
• Engage regularly with students in online forums, discussion boards, and virtual meetings.
• Grade learning activities and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Mentor student-directed scholarly work, including guiding a small group of OTD students through the development and implementation of the Doctoral Capstone Project.
• Collaborate with OTD faculty to contribute expertise and maintain a cohesive, interdisciplinary team environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must hold a professional license in the state of California or be eligible within one (1) year of appointment.
• Must hold an OTD degree in discipline from an accredited USDE-recognized regional accrediting body.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
• Experience working with diverse students and client/patient populations.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to create engaging in-person and online learning materials using diverse teaching methods.
• Computer and online systems literacy, including familiarity with Canvas, Zoom, and other course management tools.
• Experience with online pedagogy, including synchronous and asynchronous delivery.
• Commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion in professional work.
• Awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.
• Sincere desire for personal growth and development as an educator.
• Demonstrated experience advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
• Ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into teaching and mentoring.
