Job Description

The Humanities & Arts Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in Modern European History for the 2026-2027 academic year, starting in August 2026. We particularly welcome scholars specializing in Europe since 1700, using transregional, international, comparative, and/or global approaches. We are also interested in candidates with a strong record of teaching and contributions to our thematic areas of gender, sexuality, and women’s studies; and/or histories of science, technology, and medicine.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teaching 6 courses and 2 capstone inquiry seminars in History and International and Global Studies.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in History preferred; terminal degree in other relevant fields may be considered.
  • Earned Ph.D. by August 15, 2026.
  • A track record of successful classroom teaching at the university level.
  • The ability to work creatively and collaboratively across disciplines with faculty, staff, and students of various experience levels.

The university is not able to offer visa support for this position. Compensation is $70,000 - $78,000 per year, based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity. This position is exempt under FLSA.
