Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy
About the role
The Department of Philosophy at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin August 10, 2026. We seek a colleague with a PhD in Philosophy whose teaching and research interests will strengthen our undergraduate curriculum and departmental community.
Responsibilities
- Teach a 3–3 undergraduate course load
- Contribute positively to a supportive departmental community
- Teach general philosophy courses, including foundational courses like Knowledge and Reality
- Teach value theory courses, such as Morality and Justice, Global Ethics, and Ethical Theory
Requirements
- A PhD in Philosophy by the time of appointment
- An active and relevant research agenda
- Undergraduate teaching experience
- Experience mentoring students
Qualifications
- A commitment to contributing positively to a supportive departmental community
- A teaching style that aligns with the values and mission of the Department of Philosophy
Skills
- Ability to teach a variety of philosophy courses
- Experience with undergraduate education
- Strong communication skills
Benefits
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Pay
Commensurate with experience: $60,000 to $65,000
Schedule
Full-time, non-tenure-track, one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal up to three years based on performance and the availability of funding.
