Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science

About the role

The Position

Faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Full-time faculty are expected not only to excel in classroom instruction but also to fulfill various responsibilities as active members of the college community.

Responsibilities

• Teach a standard full-time course load as defined by the college (may be a mix of undergraduate and graduate courses).
• The teaching load is 8 units, where lecture sections are one unit and lab sections range from 0.5 to 1 unit.
• Develop and deliver high-quality courses in the faculty member’s area(s) of expertise
• Use inclusive, effective, engaging, and current pedagogical practices
• Fairly assess student learning and provide timely feedback
• Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with FERPA and college regulations and submit grades and records by established deadlines.
• Hold regular office hours to provide student support

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely-related field is preferred
• Master’s Degree or higher with relevant professional experience is required
• Evidence of potential for highly effective classroom teaching is required

Qualifications

• A successful candidate must have a strong interest in teaching a wide range of undergraduate computer science and data science courses in a liberal arts setting, in mentoring a variety of experiential learning opportunities, and in supporting efforts to expand the offerings in Computer Science and Data Science.
• Evidence of potential for highly effective classroom teaching is required.
