Visiting Assistant Professor, Literacy Studies

Visiting Assistant Professor, Academic Professional Track position in the Department of Teacher and Administrator Preparation, specializing in literacy studies, beginning Spring 2027. About the Role

The Department of Teacher and Administrator Preparation in the College of Education at the University of Texas at Arlington seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor in Literacy Studies. This is a full-time, non-tenured faculty position with a standard work schedule and expected continued funding.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in both traditional and online formats (5-course or equivalent teaching load in the fall and spring semesters).
• Contribute to curriculum development.
• Contribute to the department, college, and university’s mission through assigned service.

Requirements

• An earned doctorate in literacy, reading, or curriculum and instruction with at least 18 graduate hours in literacy education by December 2026.
• Evidence of strong teaching at the higher education level.
• A minimum of 3 years of PK-12 classroom teaching experience in literacy education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in university teaching in traditional and online environments.
• Understanding of the structures of schools and systems.
• Commitment to developing collaborative relationships.

Department Information

The Department of Teacher and Administrator Preparation offers undergraduate teacher certification programs in elementary education, elementary bilingual and ESL education, secondary education, and special education. The department also provides expanding offerings of on-campus and online certification, endorsements, and master’s degree programs in areas such as literacy education; Mind, Brain, and Education; Instructional and Learning Design Technology; mathematics education; and science education, with additional programs in the planning stages.
