Visiting Assistant Professor, Coastal and Marine Science
About the role
New College of Florida invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Coastal and Marine Science position, beginning August 2026.
Responsibilities
- Teach Introduction to Oceanography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the Fall semester
- Teach an advanced GIS course in the Spring semester
- Teach two courses per semester plus sponsoring individual and group tutorials, independent study projects, and senior theses
- Expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Oceanography is required
- Demonstrated commitment to innovative undergraduate liberal arts teaching is preferred
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in Marine Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, Biological Oceanography, or related fields is required by the date of employment
- Postdoctoral or teaching experience preferred
- Expertise in remote sensing is preferred
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be prepared to teach Introduction to Oceanography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the Fall semester, as well as an advanced GIS course, and a course that aligns with the candidate’s research and expertise in the Spring Semester.
Skills
Expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Oceanography is required. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to innovative undergraduate liberal arts teaching.
Benefits
This non-tenure track position is a 9-month appointment for the 2026-2027 academic year with the expected possibility of renewal.
