Primary Purpose And Essential Functions

The Department of Nutrition at the School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites qualified applicants for an adjunct faculty position for its Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition (MSCN) program as well as the fully online Master of Science in Nutrition Science (MSNS) program. The MSCN program is a Graduate Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (GP) that is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. The Department is located at the School of Health Sciences Sacramento campus and is delivered in a trimester academic calendar.

Department of Nutrition faculty are responsible for providing all aspects of didactic and clinical education for its programs. We aspire to promote student-centered learning within a humanistic environment. Teaching is the primary focus of faculty at the University. Scholarship and professional services are valued by the Department, School of Health Science, and University of the Pacific.

  • Teach in-seat, hybrid, and/or online courses as assigned in areas of expertise.
  • Design and deliver courses using competency-based education model and innovative teaching and learning modalities.
  • Advise and mentor students including on their capstone projects.
  • Collaborate with other health programs in interprofessional education and initiatives.
  • Engage in scholarship and/or professional development activities.
  • Participate in service roles at the departmental, school, and/or university levels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Earned Master degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field.
  • Preferred: Terminal degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field (PhD, DCN, DrPH) or other terminal degree (EdD) plus a degree in nutrition.
  • Current or recent (within the last five years) practice experience in acute and/or ambulatory care as dietitian.
  • Advanced practice credentials (eg. CNSC, CDCES, or CDR Board Certified Specialist credentials).
  • Previous teaching experience at the post baccalaureate level.
  • Demonstrated ongoing scholarly achievement and research expertise.
  • Experience with ACEND accreditation under the Future Education Model Graduate Program standards.
  • Experience with online pedagogy.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prominent organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion of the institutional mission and values.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
