Clinical Visiting Professor

About the Role

Chamberlain College of Nursing seeks Part-Time Clinical Instructors to teach students in our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. We are accepting applications for candidates interested in teaching the following specialties:

• Fundamental Nursing Skills: Focuses on health promotion and the rehabilitative aspects of patient care. Students provide direct patient care in acquiring skills and concepts of professional nursing, utilizing the nursing process.
• Complex Adult Health: Centers on adult patients with unstable emergent critical illnesses. Students integrate nursing, technological, and scientific knowledge with clinical judgment to optimize health across diverse populations.
• Mental-Health Nursing: Emphasizes an individual’s ability to function in society, covering anxiety, self-concept, thought disorders, mood alterations, addictive behaviors, organic brain dysfunction, abuse, and violence. Includes health promotion and wellness strategies like stress management and therapeutic communication techniques.
• Pediatric Nursing: Focuses on family-centered care of children, exploring normal childcare and health alterations from infancy through adolescence. Students participate in multidisciplinary teams to provide health promotion, illness prevention, and rehabilitative care.
• Adult Health (Medical-Surgical) Nursing: Addresses the needs of adult patients and families regarding health promotion and management of acute and chronic conditions. Students develop professional skills as members of the health team.
• Maternal-Child Nursing: Covers family-centered approaches to maternal/newborn care, including normal and high-risk experiences, complications, and women’s health issues.
• Community Health Nursing: Introduces theory and concepts of community/public/global health using levels of prevention. Emphasizes the nurse’s role as a partner with the community to shape supportive health conditions, tied to Healthy People 2020 goals.
• Collaborative Health (Leadership): Expands the scope of nursing practice for senior students, focusing on leadership and management aspects of the professional nurse.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination may be required to teach at certain clinical partner sites.

Responsibilities

• Implements the College’s philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through clinical teaching and service.
• Assumes responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching assignments.
• Plans clinical experiences and provides direct supervision and evaluation of nursing students delivering care.
• Evaluates and documents student performance based on course objectives, providing feedback and remediation as needed.
• Maintains current knowledge of agency/clinical policies, procedures, and expectations with assistance from agency personnel.
• Develops and posts written clinical assignments aligned with students’ knowledge, skill competency, and learning needs.
• Grades assignments, quizzes, tests, and clinical paperwork in a timely manner.
• May teach didactic course content under the supervision of a course coordinator.
• Keeps the course coordinator informed of student and agency issues.
• Reports to the dean or assistant dean, with direct oversight from a course coordinator.

Requirements

• A master’s or doctoral degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
• An unencumbered professional nursing license in Missouri or an NLC Compact state.
• At least two years of professional experience within the last five years in the area of instruction as a registered nurse.
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination may be required for teaching at certain clinical partner sites.

Pay

The expected compensation rate for this position is between $1,120 per assignment to $7,245 per assignment, depending on the candidate’s education and experience. Actual pay may vary based on factors such as the type of course taught, geographic location, licensure, market conditions, and departmental budgets.
