Reports to the Manager of Virtual Health Inpatient. This position works from a centralized unit at the Ft Thomas Hospital while collaborating with the healthcare team located at all hospital campuses across the system.

About the role

The Virtual Observer (VO) plays a critical role in patient safety by remotely monitoring patients requiring continuous observation. The VO will provide observation of patients at risk for falls, confusion, combativeness, or other behaviors to ensure patient safety while in their hospital room. The VO must demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors, and other employees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide observation of patients at risk for falls, confusion, combativeness, or other behaviors as indicated.
  • Act within all policies and communicate/redirect patients to keep them safe until nursing staff arrives in the event of escalation.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information; does not discuss patient care with anyone, including family.
  • Understand the layout of the unit for emergency needs.
  • Document observations as needed in the medical record.
  • Continuously observe patient behavior, mental status, and activities.
  • Notify the bedside team of any changes or unusual occurrences.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify patient behaviors that require intervention.
  • Maintain positive patient communication and remain flexible to meet unique patient needs while prioritizing safety.
  • Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
  • Perform safety checks at scheduled times and document appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assist in patient treatment effectiveness and ensure patient safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, interdependently, and set priorities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accept and adapt to change.
  • Understands the need for assistance in the event of patient distress.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Previous healthcare experience (preferred).
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (preferred).
  • Strong computer proficiency (preferred).

Pay

Starting at $15.00 per hour, plus shift differential for eligible shifts.

Schedule

Nights, 7PM-7AM, 36 hours per week.
