Violence Prevention Program Manager
Primary Functions
PRESS Forward is a specially funded initiative under the Office of Violence Prevention that aims to reduce gun violence and victimization in the City of New Haven. It achieves this by coalition-building and collaboration with relevant agencies, targeting high-risk individuals with focused social services, supporting their social networks, and enhancing workforce training and placement opportunities.
The Program Coordinator, under the direction of the Coordinator of the Office of Violence Prevention and other relevant staff in the Department of Community Resilience, is responsible for the day-to-day implementation and management of the initiative. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders and partners, preparing progress reports, managing data, and fostering community involvement.
Education, Qualifications & Experience
- Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university with major coursework in social services, criminology, public health, social work, or other relevant fields.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in public health or social service field, with at least 1 year of experience in program management.
Knowledge, Experience, Skills & Abilities
- Experience with community engagement and coalition building.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and understand cultural nuances.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practices and violence prevention.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal policies related to violence prevention.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and software.
- Familiarity with relevant software and tools for data management and program evaluation.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to resolve conflicts and mediate disputes.
- Commitment to community involvement and positive interactions.
Necessary Special Requirements

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a Special Fund, "Non-Tested" position. Continued employment contingent upon availability of future funding. The grant funding supporting this position may be terminated at any time. This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. Bargaining agreements available to review HERE.
Special Funded employees shall not be covered by the City pension but shall continue to be covered by Social Security. The City of New Haven does not sponsor employment visas. All applicants must have current authorization to work in the U.S. without employer-sponsored visa support.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of: (1) a pre-employment background check, (2) a pre-employment physical examination, including pre-employment drug screening in accordance with the City’s Drug Free Workplace Policy*, and (3) a 90-day probationary period.
