About the role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based, customer-facing, non-promotional medical and scientific position within the Pacific Northwest (PNW) area. The MSL’s key objective is to create impact by advancing clinical practice within the assigned territory to improve patient outcomes. This role serves as a scientific expert in HIV treatment and prevention, engages with healthcare providers (HCPs) and medical experts, manages territory development, and executes activities aligned with the medical strategic plan. The MSL will gather and relay insights to inform product development, clinical trial design, and market strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong scientific acumen and serve as a primary point of contact for medical and scientific inquiries in HIV treatment and prevention.
  • Provide advanced scientific and clinical knowledge to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with external experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain a strategic plan to support external experts in scientific discussions and collaborations, including emerging data discussions, clinical trial activities, uncovering barriers in the patient journey, understanding market dynamics, exploring unmet medical needs, pipeline discussions, educating on disease state and product, capturing adverse events, and gathering medical insights.
  • Gather and relay insights from the field to inform product development, clinical trial design, and market strategies.
  • Develop and deliver scientific presentations and training sessions for healthcare professionals and internal teams.
  • Support the creation of educational materials and provide scientific training to colleagues.
  • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory guidelines and company policies; maintain accurate records of interactions and outcomes.
  • Act as a role model of ViiV’s culture and values; mentor and coach new or less experienced MSLs.
  • Disseminate important safety information to healthcare professionals as directed by Medical Affairs or Research and Development teams.
  • Interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including external experts, healthcare professionals, investigators, professional societies, advocacy groups, and formulary decision-makers.
  • Assist in clinical development activities, including GSK and Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISS); work with Clinical Teams to improve site performance and provide insights into GSK research interests.
  • Attend national and regional scientific/medical meetings to gain insights on recent data related to ViiV’s products and disease states.
  • Conduct business with a One-ViiV mindset, engaging compliantly across matrix stakeholders.
  • Execute administrative responsibilities and training (e.g., Veeva CRM, email, expense reports) in a timely manner, including profiling core customers and updating CRM information.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or APP).
  • 3+ years of clinical experience in HIV or Infectious Disease.
  • Stakeholder management experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to travel 40-60%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HIV field medical experience in the U.S.
  • Proven track record of consistent, high performance within Field-Based Medical Affairs.
  • Solid grounding in clinical, medical, and pharmaceutical science with demonstrated ability to rapidly assimilate detailed knowledge.
  • Experience evaluating and effectively communicating evidence-based medicine with strong scientific communication and presentation skills.
  • Leadership skills and experience, including high business acumen, stakeholder management, and successful project participation and completion.
  • Demonstrated excellence in mentoring fellow MSLs, leading complex field-based medical team initiatives, and contributing to strategic planning.
  • Experience engaging effectively one-on-one and in group settings.
  • Effective communication skills.

Pay

The US annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $168,750 to $281,250. The salary range considers factors such as work location, skills, experience, education level, and market rate. This position also offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in a share-based long-term incentive program.
