Astrohaus is a small creative team headquartered in Metro Detroit that makes innovative consumer products at the intersection of art, technology, productivity, and design. The company was formed in 2014 by CEO and Cofounder Adam Leeb after its breakout Freewrite distraction-free writing tools. Astrohaus is independent, profitable, and not venture-funded. Freewrite products have won several awards, including the Smart Typewriter entering the Science Museum, London’s permanent Printing & Writing Collection in 2021. Tens of thousands of customers worldwide have written over 1 billion words on Freewrite devices.

About the role

We're looking for someone who can consistently turn a camera and an idea into a video that outperforms the feed around it. This role is about pattern recognition as much as production: knowing why one hook holds attention for three seconds longer, why one edit gets shared and another gets scrolled past. You’ll be behind the camera, in front of it, and in the analytics dashboard afterward, figuring out exactly why a video worked so the next one works even better. Candidates must be based locally in the Metro Detroit area for on-site content production and available for occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute short-form video concepts built to earn reach, retention, and shares on Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts
• Read platform signals (completion rate, share rate, etc.) and translate them into concrete changes to hooks, pacing, and structure
• Conceptualize and execute content ideas aligned with Freewrite’s brand voice and marketing goals
• Capture and edit short-form video content end-to-end, from concept through final cut
• Support the marketing team on product launches, paid campaigns, email marketing, and storytelling initiatives
• Maintain consistent visual and editorial standards across all content
• Lead on-site shoots, product demonstrations, and behind-the-scenes content
• Report on what’s working and what isn’t, and use that data to shape the next round of content

Requirements

• Must be located within commuting distance of Oak Park, Michigan
• Ability to work on-site as needed for content production
• Availability to work flexible hours when needed to accommodate shoots and product launches

Qualifications

• A track record of published videos that have significantly outperformed typical engagement benchmarks (be ready to show the numbers)
• Demonstrated understanding of how short-form platform algorithms surface and reward content, and how to work with that system
• At least 1 year of professional experience in content creation, social media, or digital marketing
• Proficiency with content creation tools
• Comfortable shooting and editing content independently
• Strong storytelling skills and attention to detail
• Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines
• Passion for technology and design
