About the role
Performs a variety of job tasks related to supporting victims of crime by providing opportunities for them to be included in the criminal justice process and advocating for the enforcement of their rights.
Responsibilities
- Handle criminal case files at various stages of completeness.
- Ensure all victims/witnesses are identified and provided with basic notification forms and orientation of the criminal justice systems.
- Responsible for all Early Termination Notices to victims and Assistant/Deputy District Attorneys (as required by Act 44).
- Responsible for all State Parole Notifications to victims and Assistant/Deputy District Attorneys.
- Provide court accompaniment when needed.
- Screen restitution forms for accuracy/completeness and contact victims as necessary to obtain required documentation and/or clarification.
- Ensure restitution paperwork is placed in the case file or given to the assigned attorney in a timely manner, prior to disposition of the case.
- Send disposition letters and restitution information to victims when restitution is ordered.
- Handle return mail, update victim contact database information, and remail notices.
- Work under the mentorship/direction of the Victim Witness Assistant II.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system; experience working with victims/witnesses of crime preferred.
- Experience with word processing and computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related office systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing).
- Ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Must meet all required clearances for employment (e.g., Act 34 - Criminal History, Act 33 - Child Abuse).
- Must be willing to attend and successfully complete all training required by P.C.C.D.
