Aldevra is currently seeking a qualified Victim Witness Assistant to support the United States Attorney's Office Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Assist program Victim Witness Coordinator and Victim Witness Specialists with logistics of court events by addressing issues concerning employer, preparing witnesses to testify by explaining processes, procedures, and resources available (e.g., Victim Compensation Assistance Program and other services), and providing information on victim impact statements.
  • Provide information to victims on schedule changes, status of defendants’ pleas, trial results, and term of defendants’ incarceration.
  • Orient victims on the Crime Victim Compensation Program and provide information on eligibility and application procedures.
  • Respond to victim inquiries by providing initial screening of victim concerns and determining eligibility for services based on prescribed criteria.
  • Provide routine information about community organizations that offer medical, psychological, legal, financial, shelter, childcare, and employment services to victims and witnesses based on their unique needs, following USAO guidelines and instruction.
  • Input data related to daily work product into the Victim Service Tracking System (VSTS).
  • Research returned mail and coordinate the remailing of notification letters with the assigned Victim Witness Specialist.
  • Coordinate with team members and support staff on court support and the processing of fact witness vouchers.
  • Manage a calendar of active victim cases, including tracking hearings, trial dates, and sentencing dates.
  • Develop and maintain a tracking system of ongoing cases and keep the program Coordinator and Specialists informed of their status.
  • Research and collect resources and information for crime victims and witnesses as needed.
  • Assist and provide support with National Crime Victim Rights’ Week.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Communication, or trauma-informed training.
  • 2+ years of experience working in the field of victim services and criminal justice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and with other federal, state, county, and local entities.
  • Excellent ability to work independently.
  • Must interact appropriately, demonstrate sensitivity to crime victims from diverse communities, exercise good judgment, and establish rapport with various city, state, and federal entities.
  • Valid Real-ID state-issued driver's license.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and telephone manner.
  • Excellent and accurate written communication.
  • Proficient in Windows operating systems; online calendars and cloud systems; intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accurate data entry.
  • Customer-focused and team-oriented work ethic.
  • Able to multi-task efficiently and accurately, focusing on quality.

Security Requirements

  • Must be able to maintain a government-issued badge.
  • Must be able to pass a credit check.
  • This position requires passing an extensive background check.

Mental And Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while entering information into tracking systems, researching resources, maintaining calendars, and preparing correspondence.
  • Ability to read and review electronic and printed documents for extended periods, including case information, court schedules, victim correspondence, and resource materials.
  • Ability to frequently use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, scanner, printer, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk periodically throughout the workday to attend meetings, assist with court events, retrieve records, and coordinate with staff.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry files, boxes, binders, office supplies, or other materials, consistent with normal office requirements.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and occasionally lift or carry materials when retrieving or organizing records and supplies.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move boxes, binders, case files, records, and office materials, potentially weighing up to approximately 25–30 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an environment where duties may involve prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and interacting with the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with victims, witnesses, attorneys, staff, and community service providers.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when screening inquiries and providing information.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when interacting with individuals experiencing distress.
