VICTIM ADVOCATE NF4* (RFT) FAMILY ADVOCACY PROGRAM

About the role
Provides direct support to individuals and families who are victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault (primarily adult victims but including the non-offending parent in child abuse cases). Conducts assessments to identify risk factors, assists clients in formulating safety plans, and ensures victim safety through pre-trial, trial, and post-trial support. Promotes healthy family interactions and reduces risk factors for family maltreatment.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention, education, and resources to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
- Develop and maintain relationships with individuals and families, including case closure and modifying safety plans as needed.
- Act as liaison with commands, government, and private civilian organizations to ensure victim safety and coordinated treatment services.
- Collaborate with local court systems, child welfare, and civilian law enforcement agencies on family maltreatment cases.
- Provide resource and referral services, directing clients to military and civilian services, shelters, crisis centers, and community providers.
- Independently assess risk, consult with commands, and recommend protection orders or other safety measures.
- Provide crisis intervention and problem resolution for clients under extreme stress.
- Maintain records of all contacts, referrals, and outcomes while ensuring confidentiality.
- Keep the Family Advocacy case manager informed of the victim’s situation.
- Facilitate briefings and classes for commands and military agencies on domestic violence prevention.
- Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.
- Serve in an "on-call" duty status outside normal work hours, including carrying a cell phone or pager and responding to emergencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in counseling, behavioral science, psychology, social work, criminal justice, or related field.
- At least two years of supervised experience providing advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault.
- Knowledge of military organizations, missions, lifestyles, and stressors contributing to family crises.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, develop safety plans, and implement service goals.
- Skill in collaborating with medical, legal, law enforcement, and social service professionals during crises.
- Ability to compose clear, concise, and effective written reports and materials.
- Knowledge of local and military community resources and services.
- Ability to facilitate educational classes on early intervention, healthy family interactions, and abuse prevention.
- Current driver’s license or ability to obtain one; ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including on-call duties.
