Family Advocacy Program Victim Advocacy

• Serves as Victim Advocate for the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) to provide comprehensive assistance and liaison to and for victims of spouse/intimate partner abuse and non-offending parents or caregivers of victims of child abuse.
  • Counsels victims and their families on crisis intervention, securing medical treatment, legal rights, and resources.
  • Coordinates with FAP case manager to develop appropriate plans of assistance/intervention ensuring the safety of the victim and their family members.
  • Provides services such as psychoeducational support groups, safety planning, and referrals to community resources.
  • Advocates for the expressed interests and safety of the victim when providing information to military and civilian courts.
  • Reports all suspected child abuse or neglect cases to proper state child protective service authorities.
  • Collaborates with Military Police and NCIS as appropriate.
  • Facilitates Transitional Compensation for Abused Dependents (TCAD) applications.
• Trains and educates professionals and paraprofessionals who work with children aboard installation on domestic abuse and child abuse prevention and awareness.
  • Develops and facilitates briefings and classes for commands and other military agencies.
  • Provides primary and secondary education and training to professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Analyzes installation-specific data regarding child abuse and domestic abuse.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of current programming and makes recommendations for improvements.

Family Advocacy Program Educator

• Provides instruction to small groups and large classes in issues related to marriage enhancement, positive parenting, anger management, stress management, communication skills, conflict resolution, domestic abuse prevention and awareness, and child abuse prevention and awareness.
  • Develops and facilitates briefings and classes for commands and other military agencies.
  • Trains professionals and paraprofessionals who work with children aboard installation.
  • Analyzes installation-specific data regarding child abuse and domestic abuse.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of current programming and makes recommendations for improvements.

Community Outreach

• Participates in the Family Advocacy Committee (FAC) to policy-making, coordinating, recommending, and overseeing the response to child abuse and domestic abuse with other agencies.
  • Collaborates with other agencies within the "Coordinated Community Response" (CCR) framework under the FAC.
  • Establishes relationships with civilian organizations to improve coordination on issues related to family violence.
  • Engages in proactive outreach and implements prevention programming.
  • Provides outreach to promote community awareness of the dynamics of abuse, local resources, and Family Advocacy Program services.
  • Works as a team with other Behavioral Health Branch prevention professionals.

Other Duties

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must have or obtain within six (6) months of hire and maintain the Basic Advocate Credential and Comprehensive Intervention Specialist designation per the National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP)/National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) policy guidelines.
• Must complete initial and ongoing certification training requirements.
