Vice President, Revenue Cycle

About the role

The Vice President Revenue Cycle is a core member of the UCSF Health leadership team, responsible for the strategic revenue cycle management to drive optimal performance and support finance objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with executive leadership to identify opportunities for improving cash flow
  • Develops and executes business plans to maximize revenue cycle performance utilizing information technology and innovative practices
  • Directs central billing office ensuring multi-entity system integration
  • Leads efforts to design, develop, and implement integrated systems that ensure accurate capture, control and reporting of patient account data
  • Ensures soundness of systems
  • Provides executive leadership and guidance to revenue cycle staff
  • Provides ongoing mentorship to subordinate leaders
  • Ensures access to relevant professional development opportunities
  • Develops succession planning pipeline for revenue cycle leadership
  • Works with executive leadership to set revenue cycle standards and develop performance goals
  • Establishes revenue cycle organizational structure to accomplish goals and facilitate growth
  • Introduces innovations to maximize revenue cycle operations
  • Led meetings with physicians, practice operations, revenue cycle management and executive leadership
  • Applies advanced expertise to advise executive leadership on state-of-the-art systems, industry trends and developments that inform the direction of revenue cycle activities
  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable regulations and standards to ensure compliance with orders or directives issued by governmental / regulatory agencies or third party payors
  • Promotes a collaborative, service-oriented culture
  • Fosters open communication and innovation among staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Minimum seven (7) to ten (10) years of senior leadership experience overseeing healthcare revenue cycle functions
  • Demonstrated experience optimizing operations and performance for revenue management and reimbursement
  • Expert knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations, concepts, and policies with an in-depth understanding of related functions and issues, including coding, registration, billing, reimbursements, aging accounts, contractual adjustments, and charge capture
  • Advanced knowledge of metrics, analytics, and data synthesis in healthcare revenue cycle management to identify trends, produce reliable forecasts and projections
  • Financial management skills, including the ability to analyze financial data for operations, budgeting, auditing, forecasting; basic accounting knowledge; AR and reserve analysis, market analysis; staffing and financial reporting skills
  • In addition to healthcare finance and revenue cycle expertise, a wide breadth of health system operational knowledge is required to succeed in the role
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of hospital operations is crucial
  • Must be able to apply wide ranging understanding of clinical finance and health system operations to think critically and identify areas for improvement
  • Requires a big picture perspective of how a health system operates in order to think strategically about how to integrate revenue cycle services, improve insight into financials and maximize profitability
  • Applies broad hospital operational knowledge, revenue cycle expertise, and strategic thinking to advise health system leaders and integrate revenue cycle functional units across the organization
  • Advanced change management skillset and collaborative approach is necessary to centralize revenue cycle under a unified structure
  • Expert skills in developing and implementing strategic plans, evaluating and developing staff competencies, organizing department operations, and leading fiscal management
  • Highly advanced critical-thinking, facilitation, and problem-solving skills with ability to develop and apply innovative solutions
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills, demonstrated experience developing and implementing operating plans, analyzing financial and operational data
  • Demonstrates a leadership style that builds and maintains a climate of trust and inspires commitment from others to achieve organization goals
  • Highly advanced leadership skills, with the ability to foster teamwork and collaboration across departments for effective problem solving, conflict resolution, and consistent achievement of objectives
  • Remains professional and calm under pressure
  • Consistently demonstrates and encourages a commitment to quality, customer-centeredness, productivity and continuous improvement
  • Expert ability to collaborate with executives to centralize operations and develop and implement long-term objectives and strategic plans

  • Holds a Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in Academic Medical Center and Funds Flow environments

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
