As a Product Manager in Digital Utilities, you will own an API portfolio powering key products across JP Morgan Chase, connecting internal and external consumers to customers' Statements of Record. This role focuses on standardization across API design, onboarding, entitlements, and operational readiness to improve developer experience and reliability at scale.
Responsibilities
- Develop a product strategy and vision that delivers value to customers.
- Manage discovery efforts and market research to uncover customer solutions and integrate them into the product roadmap.
- Own, maintain, and develop a product backlog that enables development to support the overall strategic roadmap and value proposition.
- Build the framework and track the product's key success metrics such as cost, feature and functionality, risk posture, and reliability.
- Lead an API portfolio end-to-end, including roadmap planning, prioritization, and stakeholder alignment across lines of business and shared services.
- Define and evolve API product standards (design, versioning, documentation, deprecation, and backward compatibility) to improve reuse and reduce fragmentation.
- Partner with engineering and architecture to ensure platform capabilities meet non-functional requirements including resiliency, latency, scalability, and observability.
- Drive API onboarding and adoption by improving developer experience through self-service patterns, clear documentation, and consistent support models.
- Establish and govern operating rhythms (OKRs, release readiness, incident learning, and dependency management) to improve delivery predictability and service health.
- Collaborate with controls, cybersecurity, privacy, and data governance teams to ensure compliant access patterns, entitlements, and auditability for Statements of Record connectivity.
- Manage lifecycle health for existing APIs, including modernization, risk remediation, platform migrations, and cost optimization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience or equivalent expertise in product management or a relevant domain area.
- Advanced knowledge of the product development life cycle, design, and data analytics.
- Proven ability to lead product life cycle activities including discovery, ideation, strategic development, requirements definition, and value management.
- Strong understanding of API products and platform fundamentals, including REST/JSON, event-driven patterns, authentication/authorization, and service-level objectives.
- Experience translating complex stakeholder needs into clear product requirements, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes in a large enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with engineering, architecture, and operations teams to deliver resilient, production-grade services.
- Working knowledge of operational excellence practices including incident management, problem management, and continuous improvement via post-incident learnings.
- Ability to define and track metrics such as adoption, latency, availability, error rates, onboarding time, and cost-to-serve to guide prioritization and investment decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence decision-making across senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Experience managing dependencies across multiple teams and delivering through ambiguity with a structured, outcomes-driven approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated prior experience working in a highly matrixed, complex organization.
- Experience with API management and developer enablement capabilities such as catalogs/portals, API gateways, throttling, and consumption analytics.
- Familiarity with data lineage, data governance, and stewardship concepts as they relate to Statements of Record and controlled distribution.
- Exposure to resiliency engineering concepts (e.g., graceful degradation, circuit breaking, active-active patterns) and how they translate into platform requirements.
- Knowledge of security patterns for APIs and the product decisions that enable secure-by-default integrations.
