About the Role

The VP, Portfolio Management is an individual contributor responsible for performing financial analysis and preparing underwriting documents to support multimillion-dollar corporate credit requests that grow funded assets and Key's client base, while maintaining asset quality within a moderate risk profile. These requests include obtaining initial approval for new, occasionally complex, credit exposure (e.g., revolving credit facilities, term loans, leases, foreign exchange products, derivatives products, and other ancillary products) and amendments to existing exposure.

Additionally, the role involves ongoing credit monitoring and risk rating for a portfolio of corporate clients, primarily participation in other banks' syndicated deals with a small number of Left Lead deals. Responsibilities include reviewing legal documentation and assisting product partners in cross-selling additional bank products. This individual demonstrates leadership within credit underwriting and portfolio management, working independently or as part of a deal team, and providing guidance to junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze all relevant financial data for high-value clients or prospects, including spreading financial statements, analyzing historical performance, calculating credit metrics, identifying risks and mitigants, and assessing creditworthiness.
  • Model future financial performance of clients and prospects, including downside scenarios.
  • Demonstrate leadership in structuring transactions in collaboration with Business Partners, Bankers, and Relationship Managers.
  • Perform enhanced leveraged cash flow due diligence when appropriate (e.g., in specific Banking Group Portfolio Management specialty groups).
  • Prepare thorough credit underwriting documents identifying credit risks, industry concerns, market share trends, financial trends, and other pertinent credit issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including Know Your Customer (KYC), MCA/Patriot Act/OFAC checks, and certifying Beneficial Ownership.
  • Manage the approval process for lending commitments, amendments, waivers, and consents, including monitoring, reporting, and making recommendations to Credit Executives.
  • Review and maintain all necessary legal documentation to ensure it correctly reflects approval.
  • Monitor accounts and ongoing financial performance to track covenant compliance, liquidity, earnings trends, and management capability to secure the bank's position and minimize potential losses.
  • Ensure data integrity in Key's systems and reporting, maintaining appropriate risk ratings with timely updates.
  • Identify potential problem accounts and work with the Asset Recovery Group to improve the bank's position.
  • Establish and maintain direct client relationships, attending management presentations, bank meetings, and conducting site visits to monitor business conditions and identify new opportunities.
  • Contribute to or prepare white papers on assigned industry segments as requested.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to Analysts and Associates.
  • Gather and prepare data in response to ad hoc requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in finance, accounting, economics, and/or business (preferred).
  • Master's Degree (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial underwriting, credit, banking, and/or financial services experience.

Skills

  • Expert-level understanding of foundational accounting principles and ability to interpret and analyze financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements).

  • Experience structuring meaningful and appropriate financial covenants for syndicated debt facilities.
  • Developing experience managing the left lead/administrative agent role in syndicated deals.
  • Ability to lead client discussions during negotiations and act as the primary lending representative on deal execution.
  • Knowledge of business and legal elements of credit agreements and ability to collaborate through document negotiations.
  • Solid understanding of banking and investment banking products, services, and current market dynamics.

Physical Demands

  • General office environment: prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face-to-face or by phone, frequent use of PC/laptop.
  • Occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of backpacks or computer bags up to 10 lbs.

Travel

Occasional travel, including overnight stays.

Schedule

Hybrid (3+ days in-office).

Pay

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $96,000.00 - $181,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based on skills, experience, and geographic location. Compensation also includes eligibility for incentive compensation, which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
