Responsibilities

  • Develop long-range objectives and strategies to achieve them.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Provide consultation and expert advice on technical, systems, or process-related topics to management or other groups.
  • Resolve conflicts, handle complaints, settle disputes, and negotiate with others.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, subordinates, and external stakeholders (clients, government, public, legal advisors).
  • Obtain, categorize, and evaluate information from various sources, including individuals.
  • Determine compliance with laws, regulations, or standards using relevant information and judgment.
  • Think creatively to develop new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products.
  • Process information by compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, auditing, or verifying data (e.g., investigate insurance claims, verify investigative information, note discrepancies in financial records).
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize work to accomplish specific goals.
  • Guide, develop, and motivate teams and subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring progress.
  • Establish and maintain constructive interpersonal relationships.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and settle claims using technical knowledge and human relations skills to ensure fair and prompt disposal of cases.
  • Supervise claims adjusters to ensure proper methods are followed.
  • Adjust reserves or provide reserve recommendations consistent with corporate policies.
  • Resolve complex, high-exposure claims with high service-oriented handling.
  • Pay and process claims within designated authority levels.
  • Confer with legal counsel on claims requiring litigation.
  • Contact or interview claimants, doctors, medical specialists, or employers to gather additional information.
  • Maintain claim files, including records of settled claims and inventories of claims requiring detailed analysis.
  • Prepare reports for submission to the company’s data processing department.
  • Conduct detailed bill reviews to implement sound litigation management and expense control.

Requirements

  • 7-10+ years of brokerage claims experience, including knowledge of P&C coverages, policy forms, and brokerage claim customer service activities.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and internet navigation.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of people and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid P&C Property Casualty Broker-Agent License.
  • Juris Doctor of Law Degree (required).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage Claims Advocates, Claims Consultants, and other administrative personnel.

Pay

The national average salary for this role is $175,000 to $210,000 in base pay, exclusive of bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on experience, skills, training, certifications, education, internal equity, and market data.
