Vice President of Engineering - SafelyYou Platform

About the role

SafelyYou is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead the end-to-end development of our platform, powering life-safety and AI-enabled solutions across tens of thousands of devices deployed nationwide. This leader will oversee a 50+ person engineering organization spanning Infrastructure, Mobile, Cloud, Fleet software, AI and Hardware and will be accountable for delivering highly available, scalable, and secure systems that support mission-critical operations in senior care communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Organizational Leadership

• Collaborate closely with Product, R&D, Operations, and Compliance teams to define roadmap priorities and align engineering execution with company strategy.
• Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization across Mobile, Cloud, QA, DevOps, and Fleet Software, AI and Hardware.
• Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and career paths to foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and technical excellence.

• Platform & Product Development

• Own the execution and delivery of SafelyYou’s platform, with a focus on engineering team effectiveness, capacity planning, and predictable, on-time delivery in the short to medium term.
• Partner closely with the CPTO, who owns the technical vision and long-term architectural direction, to ensure execution aligns with the company’s broader technical strategy.
• Own the architecture, development, and delivery of SafelyYou’s platform, spanning:
• Cloud services powering fall detection, alerting, data pipelines, analytics, and integrations
• Mobile applications supporting caregivers and operators
• Fleet software deployed across tens of thousands of smart edge devices
• Cloud Infrastructure supporting our distributed systems and high availability

• Operational Excellence

• Build and enforce engineering best practices, including code quality, CI/CD pipelines, observability, incident management, risk mitigation, and root-cause analysis.
• Implement and refine Agile development methodologies that improve predictability, throughput, and cross-team alignment.
• Establish robust frameworks for measuring engineering performance and velocity (e.g., DORA metrics, sprint predictability, defect rates, throughput).

• High Availability & Reliability

• Oversee the design and operation of production systems with 24/7 uptime requirements.
• Champion best practices for redundancy, failover, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and proactive system health monitoring.
• Ensure compliance and reliability standards appropriate for life-safety environments.

• Strategic Contribution

• Identify opportunities to scale the platform, reduce operational costs, accelerate delivery, and strengthen product quality.
• Partner with the CPTO to define technical strategy, long-term architecture, and investment priorities across the SafelyYou Core platform.
• Represent engineering in executive forums and contribute to company-wide planning and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Required

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams of 20+
• Proven track record operating high-availability production systems and SaaS platforms supporting large distributed device fleets.
• Strong technical foundation in cloud architectures, distributed systems, mobile development, and modern backend frameworks.
• Deep experience implementing and optimizing Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid models).
• Expertise in measuring and improving engineering performance and velocity (e.g., OKRs, DORA metrics, cycle time analysis).
• Excellent organizational leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

• Preferred

• Experience in regulated or safety-critical environments (healthcare, IoT, life-safety systems).
• Background working with large-scale IoT or distributed hardware fleets.
• Knowledge of AI/ML integration in production systems.
