The Vice President of M&A and Partnership Development will play a critical role in KP's overall enterprise strategy and growth and diversification agenda, reporting to the SVP, Chief Business Development Officer. This role supports marketplace and enterprise efforts, working with members of the national leadership team and market leadership teams to pursue identification, valuation, due diligence, and negotiations for acquisitions of physician practices, health plans, health systems, and other entities to expand into key markets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end process of identifying, prioritizing, evaluating, selecting, negotiating, and executing transactions based on strategic criteria, ensuring alignment with the organization’s long-term goals.
  • Deliver actionable business intelligence and integration guidance to implementation teams to ensure well-informed strategic decisions and effective execution.
  • Define objectives, scope, and deliverables for the business development function and lead their successful execution, providing regular updates to senior management.
  • Collaborate with enterprise and market strategy teams to maintain a robust business intelligence database for identifying and evaluating new opportunities.
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of economic assessments, financial valuations, and supporting analyses for evaluating specific opportunities.
  • Lead the identification of merger and acquisition opportunities, assess strategic alternatives, and negotiate transactions with senior leaders of target organizations.
  • Coordinate deal teams, including internal KP members and external advisors such as legal, banking, and consulting firms.
  • Provide clear integration guidance for completed transactions to ensure seamless handoffs and successful outcomes.
  • Identify and cultivate new business relationships to support growth objectives, including acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures.
  • Develop compelling business cases and executive/board presentations to support merger and acquisition opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including leaders from health plans, finance, IT, regional teams, Permanente, Risant, KPMF, and other national functions.
  • Develop and sustain a network of external peers, delivery system leaders, consultants, bankers, and industry experts to stay informed about trends and opportunities.
  • Develop methodologies to gain support and approval from executive leadership and the KP Board of Directors for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Establish and refine standard methodologies for transaction processes, ensuring consistent application across the organization.
  • Ensure appropriate engagement of internal and external parties, including consultants, investment bankers, legal, compliance, finance, and other critical functions.

Requirements

  • Minimum twelve (12) years in healthcare leadership roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated success in building and executing enterprise strategies.
  • Proven ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
  • Track record in corporate and partnership development, including health systems, physicians, and diversified businesses.
  • Success in managing complex M&A transactions within healthcare delivery.
  • Demonstrated success in developing national relationships.
  • Systems thinker with a focus on advancing the entire organization through collaboration and influence.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions, promote collaboration, and build consensus across diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience prioritizing and building key relationships critical to organizational success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years at the corporate or regional level, preferably within a multi-site, matrixed integrated system.
  • Master’s degree in business administration or healthcare administration.

Schedule

  • Full-time, standard worker schedule.
  • Workdays: Monday through Friday.
  • Working hours: 08:01 AM to 05:01 PM.
  • Travel: Yes, 25% of the time.
  • Work setting: Flexible, with worker location aligned to Kaiser Permanente’s Authorized States policy.

Pay

The posted pay range is $319,500 - $399,375 per year. Actual base pay will be determined at offer based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate’s relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
