About the role
We are seeking an experienced Business Lawyer for the role of Vice President, Legal to support our value-based care initiatives and healthcare product innovation.
Responsibilities
- Lead drafting, negotiation, and management of value-based care agreements, including risk-sharing and alternative payment models.
- Advise on provider, payer, and vendor agreements aligned with value-based reimbursement structures.
- Ensure contracts comply with applicable federal and state healthcare laws.
- Provide counsel on Medicare and Medicaid regulations, including reimbursement, coverage, and program integrity requirements.
- Support clinical operations for direct care team.
- Interpret and advise on healthcare fraud and abuse laws (e.g., Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute).
- Support compliance strategies for evolving value-based care models.
- Advise on healthcare privacy laws, including HIPAA and related state regulations.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure compliant handling of patient data and health information.
- Support incident response and risk mitigation related to data privacy.
- Support Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to support the development of new healthcare products and services.
- Identify legal and regulatory risks in product design and propose practical solutions.
- Enable scalable, compliant growth strategies, including market expansion and new partnerships.
- Work closely with operations, commercial, finance, human resources, information technology and leadership teams including market presidents.
- Translate complex legal requirements into actionable business guidance.
- Support training and internal policy development.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active bar membership in good standing
- 5–10+ years of relevant legal experience (law firm and/or in-house)
- Deep knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulatory frameworks
- Experience with healthcare contracting, especially value-based care arrangements
- Strong understanding of healthcare privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA)
- Strong negotiation and contract drafting skills
- Practical, business-oriented legal judgment
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting healthcare technology or digital health products
- Familiarity with risk-based provider arrangements and payer contracting
- Background in startup or high-growth environments
- Working knowledge of state healthcare regulations and multi-state operations
