Responsibilities

  • Expand and modify existing assets, develop new assets, and acquire third-party assets.
  • Negotiate and execute business contracts, coordinating with legal, financial, engineering, and operations functions.
  • Develop and pursue opportunities related to the electricity business and electric transmission, focusing on reducing operating costs, developing electric transmission projects, and creating new markets.
  • Renegotiate supply deals, create self-supplying electricity, establish connections to alternative utilities, and take advantage of organized markets.
  • Investigate and originate transactions aimed at reducing operating costs and capturing opportunities in the electric transmission sector.
  • Influence electric policy and planning processes at the state level, financially evaluate transactions, and manage rate-making processes at FERC.
  • Acquire, upgrade, and build electric transmission facilities, grow the sustainability portfolio, and develop commercial support for renewable energy projects.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance, assess competitive threats, and develop strategies to mitigate risks to company performance.
  • Identify and market/restructure Tallgrass assets that could benefit from electricity business and electric transmission integration.
  • Analyze U.S. supply/demand fundamentals and market trends, and develop feasibility studies and business plans for new opportunities.
  • Develop marketing campaigns for electricity business and electric transmission opportunities, formulate budgets, and negotiate agreements for legal review and execution.
  • Promote Tallgrass sustainability initiatives and participate in industry groups, developing standards and promoting the industry.
  • Originate and evaluate opportunities to leverage current assets, assist in acquiring and retaining customers, and assist in the development of additional services.
  • Work with Engineering, Project Management, and Operations departments to ensure customer requirements are achieved and aligned with sustainability proposals.
  • Implement the strategic marketing plan, provide market research and analysis, and define company strategy for the organization, including target customers and applications, competition, pricing, market trends, supplier development, and alliances.
  • Communicate with management on goals and objectives on a regular and consistent basis, and assist in the management of the budget and other financial measures of the department.
  • Develop and document annual plans/budgets for revenues and volumes in company-owned assets, and communicate with management on goals and objectives on a regular and consistent basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related discipline, or a minimum of 10 years of direct work experience in the energy sector may be considered as a substitute for a degree.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in clean energy development, including executive experience in utility space interface, tax credit realization and monetization, ISO and RTO familiarity, and experience with new technologies.
  • Working knowledge of FERC rules and regulations, including Standards of Conduct and related policies.
  • Proficient in negotiation skills, including five years’ minimum experience negotiating with outside parties and asset purchases/sales.
  • Experience in identifying and pursuing asset acquisitions, developing and monitoring budgets, and establishing contacts with producers and marketers.
  • Knowledge of the clean energy industry and costing critical to management of team and effective communication with customers.
  • Successful track record of strategic selling and managing complex and challenging negotiations.
  • Excellent critical thinking, project management, communication, decision making, presentation, human relations, and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
