Vice President and Chief Information Officer
About the role
The Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) will lead Dartmouth’s Information, Technology, and Consulting (ITC) organization, aligning academic, research, and business needs with cutting-edge information and technology. The CIO will optimize business operations, ensure cybersecurity and resilience, and drive initiatives such as integrating business and technology strategy, developing talent, designing the IT operating model, and advancing innovation. The role will focus on digitizing processes to support research, teaching, and learning, streamlining operations, providing consulting services to professional schools, and fostering an organizational structure that reinforces ITC’s reputation as a trusted partner. Through visionary leadership, the CIO will empower Dartmouth to drive innovation, manage risk, and deliver lasting value to stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive ITC strategy aligned with Dartmouth’s mission, long-term goals, and evolving business and technology needs.
- Champion innovation by identifying and implementing emerging technologies that advance academic, research, and administrative priorities, while fostering a client-driven approach to digital solutions.
- Cultivate a high-performing, inclusive team culture that embraces creativity, change, continuous improvement, and promotes a change-positive mindset across the institution.
- Ensure data security and operational resilience through robust cybersecurity protocols and disaster recovery planning across all Dartmouth entities and partnerships.
- Build strategic external partnerships that amplify Dartmouth’s mission, fostering a culture of trust, inclusion, and respect through collaboration and innovation.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years leading IT teams or organizations, including IT operations management, IT strategy development, and driving large-scale transformational change.
- Leadership: Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire high-performing teams, fostering collaboration and motivation across diverse groups.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with community stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Financial Management: Extensive experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and managing IT-related financial strategies.
- Governance: In-depth knowledge of IT governance frameworks, such as COBIT, ITIL, and ISO 27001.
- Technology Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of current and emerging technologies, including the ability to prototype and implement innovative solutions.
- Cybersecurity: Proven experience in managing cybersecurity and risk mitigation strategies.
- Decision-Making: Strong decision-making abilities, particularly in risk management and strategic planning.
- Strategic Vision: Ability to anticipate and capitalize on future trends and opportunities to advance the organization’s goals.
