About the role

The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is seeking a Vice Chair for Administration in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia. This full-time, tenure- or appointment-stream faculty position can be appointed at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor rank. The Vice Chair supports the department chair and oversees the teaching mission of the department.

The DNP Nurse Anesthesia program at the University of Pittsburgh is ranked 5th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The program prepares students through coursework that develops knowledge and skill in anesthesia practice, organizational and leadership skills, chemistry and physics of anesthesia, advanced pharmacology, advanced physiology and pathophysiology, anesthesia care principles, anesthesia technology, team training, patient safety, and the professional role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the Department of Nurse Anesthesia in the absence of the department chair.
  • Orient and mentor new faculty to teaching roles.
  • Provide support and present regular updates in department meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair on matters regarding department faculty and staff.
  • Meet regularly with the Department Chair and Vice Chair for Research and Scholarship to review faculty development and departmental needs.
  • Teaching, research/scholarship, and service as part of faculty responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Board certified as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
  • Hold an unencumbered license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (or an unencumbered multi-state license from a compact state).
  • Proven administrative capabilities in leading and managing academic and curricular activities, including didactic and clinical graduate courses.
  • Conducts independent research/scholarship.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.
  • An earned doctorate in nursing or a field related to the area of scholarship within the School of Nursing.
