About the role

The Veterinary Technician – Surgery position at Heart of Texas in Round Rock, TX is a full-time role with a 4-day, 10-hour shift. Compensation is negotiable based on experience and credentials, with an expected starting range of $23.50-26/hour. The actual pay will be determined by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Responsibilities

  • Support safe anesthesia and surgical care from intake through recovery
  • Communicate with pet parents, perform venipuncture/catheter placement, calculate and administer medications/fluids accurately
  • Closely monitor patients before, during, and after procedures
  • Provide anesthesia recovery and post-operative care, including comfort measures and ongoing monitoring
  • Communicate with pet parents regarding patient status and discharge/post-op instructions
  • Stay calm, focused, and team-oriented in fast-paced or stressful situations

Requirements

  • 3+ years of recent veterinary technician experience
  • Surgical experience in a veterinary setting
  • Comfortable supporting anesthesia and perioperative patient monitoring
  • Proficient in venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Strong medical math skills (accurate dosage and fluid calculations)
  • Clear, compassionate communication with pet parents and the care team
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) preferred
  • Willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays

Qualifications

Your high school diploma or GED is required, along with a licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT).

Skills

  • Working knowledge of anesthetics, surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, and lab techniques
