Position Summary

Provide direct patient care and surgical support to veterinarians. This role focuses on anesthesia, surgical assistance, patient monitoring, and maintaining a safe, efficient clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver medical care according to treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Ensure proper patient identification (ID collar, cage card, documentation)
  • Surgical & Technical Support:
    • Assist veterinarians with anesthesia, surgery, radiology, and lab procedures
    • Prepare and restrain patients safely for procedures
    • Maintain surgical logs, anesthesia records, and controlled substance logs
  • Organize daily treatment and surgical schedules to support efficient workflow
  • Maintain accurate charges for procedures, medications, and services
  • Work independently when needed to ensure continuous patient care
  • Client Communication:
    • Educate clients on treatments, medications, post-op care, and general animal care
  • Facility & Patient Maintenance:
    • Maintain a clean, safe environment (treatment areas, cages, surgical spaces)
    • Ensure patient hygiene, including bathing, feeding, and bedding
  • General Expectations:
    • Support hospital operations as needed
    • Follow all safety and animal care protocols
    • Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, and restrain animals
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and assist with moving patients
  • Perform tasks requiring reaching, kneeling, and crouching
  • Work in a fast-paced clinical environment
