Position Summary
Provide direct patient care and surgical support to veterinarians. This role focuses on anesthesia, surgical assistance, patient monitoring, and maintaining a safe, efficient clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver medical care according to treatment plans
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Ensure proper patient identification (ID collar, cage card, documentation)
- Surgical & Technical Support:
- Assist veterinarians with anesthesia, surgery, radiology, and lab procedures
- Prepare and restrain patients safely for procedures
- Maintain surgical logs, anesthesia records, and controlled substance logs
- Organize daily treatment and surgical schedules to support efficient workflow
- Maintain accurate charges for procedures, medications, and services
- Work independently when needed to ensure continuous patient care
- Client Communication:
- Educate clients on treatments, medications, post-op care, and general animal care
- Facility & Patient Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean, safe environment (treatment areas, cages, surgical spaces)
- Ensure patient hygiene, including bathing, feeding, and bedding
- General Expectations:
- Support hospital operations as needed
- Follow all safety and animal care protocols
- Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, and restrain animals
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and assist with moving patients
- Perform tasks requiring reaching, kneeling, and crouching
- Work in a fast-paced clinical environment
