About the role

The role of Veterinary Technician at BluePearl Pet Hospital is an exciting, fast-paced opportunity that allows you to utilize your skills and expand your abilities under the guidance of some of the most talented veterinary professionals. You will work in the busy Emergency and Critical Care department, where you will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients, triage emergency cases, perform digital radiography, and manage various medical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert the veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• Experience in a veterinary setting, preferably in an emergency or critical care environment.
• A strong foundation in veterinary clinical skills, including anesthesia, radiography, and medication administration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with clients and veterinarians.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Valid state license to practice veterinary technology.

Qualifications

Qualifications for this position include:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized veterinary technician program.
• Current certification as a Veterinary Technician (VTS).
• Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $20 - $40 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

Schedule

Shifts may vary, but typically include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Exact schedule will be determined based on hospital needs and individual qualifications.
