About the role

Sunset Animal Hospital, part of the Suveto network of hospitals, is seeking an experienced part-time Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated team. Located in the Houston, TX area, we pride ourselves on providing compassionate and high-quality veterinary care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors.
  • Take history from clients.
  • Perform physical assessments and record observations legibly in medical records.
  • Educate clients on preventative healthcare recommendations and provide follow-up.
  • Communicate any patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples, perform in-house laboratory tests, and prepare all forms to be sent to outside labs. Call owners with results as requested by the veterinarian.
  • Provide and monitor all nursing care as requested by the veterinarian for patients admitted to the hospital, including medications (all routes) and monitoring.
  • Admit and discharge patients to the hospital by following all admission and discharge protocols. Educate clients on admit/discharge.
  • Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, hospital wards, and other areas as requested.
  • Dispense veterinarian-approved medication, patient food, print treatment sheets, discharge instructions, cage card labels, x-ray and lab labels, record communication with clients and doctors, and others as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by the veterinarian.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • At least 3 years of clinical veterinary hospital experience, preferably with some veterinary technician education.
  • Surgical and anesthesia monitoring experience is required.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to act as a team player.
  • Basic veterinary medical terminology required.
  • Must have proficient knowledge of veterinarian practice software.
  • Must have a clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
