About the role
Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (VESH) in West Springfield, MA is hiring a Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Oncology team. This full-time Veterinary Technician opportunity is ideal for a CVT, RVT, or LVT who is passionate about oncology, specialty medicine, patient care, and supporting families throughout their pet’s treatment journey.
Responsibilities
- Play an important role in supporting patients throughout their treatment journey while delivering exceptional care and client communication.
- Perform patient intakes and obtain detailed medical histories.
- Review treatment plans, cost estimates, medications, and discharge instructions with clients.
- Assist veterinarians with patient exams, diagnostics, procedures, and chemotherapy administration.
- Collect and prepare diagnostic samples including blood, urine, and fine needle aspirates.
- Perform medical calculations and administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Safely handle and administer chemotherapy agents according to hospital safety protocols.
- Assist with radiographs, CT scans, ultrasound procedures, and patient positioning.
- Monitor sedated patients during procedures and oversee safe recovery.
- Deliver high-quality patient care while maintaining accurate medical records.
- Collaborate closely with doctors and fellow technicians to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Certified Veterinary Technician required (CVT, RVT, or LVT).
- Active veterinary technician credential in Massachusetts required.
- Previous oncology experience preferred.
- Strong technical nursing skills and confidence in patient handling.
- Able to perform medical calculations and administer treatments accurately.
- Excellent communication and client education skills.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital environment.
- Friendly, dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented approach.
- Positive attitude with a strong commitment to hospital culture and collaboration.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to jump in wherever needed to support the team.
- Eagerness to continue learning and growing within veterinary oncology.
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
