About the role

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (VESH) in West Springfield, MA is hiring a Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Oncology team. This full-time Veterinary Technician opportunity is ideal for a CVT, RVT, or LVT who is passionate about oncology, specialty medicine, patient care, and supporting families throughout their pet’s treatment journey.

Responsibilities

  • Play an important role in supporting patients throughout their treatment journey while delivering exceptional care and client communication.
  • Perform patient intakes and obtain detailed medical histories.
  • Review treatment plans, cost estimates, medications, and discharge instructions with clients.
  • Assist veterinarians with patient exams, diagnostics, procedures, and chemotherapy administration.
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples including blood, urine, and fine needle aspirates.
  • Perform medical calculations and administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Safely handle and administer chemotherapy agents according to hospital safety protocols.
  • Assist with radiographs, CT scans, ultrasound procedures, and patient positioning.
  • Monitor sedated patients during procedures and oversee safe recovery.
  • Deliver high-quality patient care while maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Collaborate closely with doctors and fellow technicians to ensure excellent patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Certified Veterinary Technician required (CVT, RVT, or LVT).
  • Active veterinary technician credential in Massachusetts required.
  • Previous oncology experience preferred.
  • Strong technical nursing skills and confidence in patient handling.
  • Able to perform medical calculations and administer treatments accurately.
  • Excellent communication and client education skills.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital environment.
  • Friendly, dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented approach.
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to hospital culture and collaboration.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to jump in wherever needed to support the team.
  • Eagerness to continue learning and growing within veterinary oncology.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
