Veterinary Technician: Medical Oncology
About the role
This position performs technical responsibilities in support of the oncology services of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC).
Responsibilities
- Tracks supply inventory levels and places replenishment orders (10%)
- Completes appropriate laboratory tests and collects specimens according to established medical orders and care plans (10%)
- Affords assistance in facilitating trainings for animal care staff and supervising student employees as needed (10%)
- Affords assistance with study patients (sample collection/care/ultrasound prep) (5%)
- Affords assistance with complex technical animal care procedures and work unit activities, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (15%)
- Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions (10%)
- Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities (10%)
- Maintains animal health status and records, provides nursing care, notifies veterinarian when status changes, and records in the medical record (10%)
- Administers chemotherapy (5%)
- Develops recordkeeping processes, maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing (10%)
- Radiation mattress setup (5%)
Requirements
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently
- Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
- Proven proficiency with IV catheter placements
- Proven proficiency with sedation administration and monitoring
- Proven knowledge of basic nursing skills
- Experience with client communication
Qualifications
- Education: Certified Veterinary Technician Required
- High School Diploma Required
- Associates Degree Preferred

Pay
The starting hourly rate for the position is $20.00 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications). Sign-on Bonus of 3% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment!
Schedule
The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
