Responsibilities
- Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors.
- Take history from client.
- Perform physical assessments and record observations legibly in medical record.
- Educate clients on preventative healthcare recommendations and provide follow up.
- Communicate any patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples, perform in house laboratory tests, and prepare all forms to be sent to outside labs, call owner with results as requested by veterinarian.
- Provide and monitor all nursing care as requested by veterinarian for patients admitted to hospital, including medications (all routes) and monitoring.
- Admit and discharge patients to hospital by following all admission and discharge protocols. Educate clients on admit/discharge.
- Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, hospital wards and other areas as requested.
- Maintain proficiency in practice software for dispensing veterinarian approved medication, patient food, printing treatment sheets, discharge instructions, cage card labels, x ray and lab labels, recording communication with client and doctors, and others as directed by veterinarian.
- Understand and enforce OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
- Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by veterinarian.
- Perform tech appointments, such as pedicures, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, routine lab work, subcutaneous fluids, etc. as deemed appropriate by practice.
- Assist doctors in medical and diagnostic procedures.
- Place IV catheters and begin fluid therapy when required by veterinarian.
- Assist in induction and maintenance of general anesthesia with doctor present.
- Assist in operating room, recovery, and post op-nursing care as requested by veterinarian.
- Perform client callbacks and updates as requested.
