Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide advanced veterinary technical support for shelter and community engagement activities, including patient handling, sample collection, anesthesia assistance, surgical support, treatments, and preventive care.
- Prepare and maintain clinical equipment, supplies, and mobile/community-based materials.
- Support medical record documentation and discharge processes as needed.
- Ensure adherence to standards of patient care, biosecurity, and safety across varied clinical environments.
- Provide day-to-day oversight and coordination of technicians and support staff within the Shelter Medicine & Community Engagement service.
- Aid in workflow organization, case flow, and task delegation.
- Support onboarding, training, and mentorship of technicians and students.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable team culture.
- Support administrative functions, including scheduling coordination, service communications, and documentation.
- Aid in budget-related processes, expense tracking, and financial documentation.
- Support procurement and inventory activities, including ordering, stock monitoring, and supply organization.
- Identify workflow or resource challenges and contribute to operational improvements.
- Serve as the point of contact for the Shelter Medicine & Community Engagement service at Lead Technician meetings with the Technician Manager.
- Communicate service needs, updates, and operational considerations.
- Support alignment between clinical, operational, and educational priorities.
- Support veterinary students during clinical skills, labs, and service-based learning activities.
- Aid in preparation and organization of teaching materials and clinical exercises.
- Promote a positive learning environment emphasizing patient safety and professionalism.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent).
- Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of veterinary technical experience; shelter medicine or high-volume surgery experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience supporting administrative, inventory, or procurement processes is a plus.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in diverse clinical environments, including shelters and community-based settings with valid driver’s license and mode of reliable transportation.
