Veterinary Technician - Internal Medicine Lead
About the role
Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists is seeking a Lead Internal Medicine Vet Tech to join our team. Located at 2426 Ceegee St., San Antonio, TX 78217, this position is full-time with a schedule of Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., with potential for extended hours.
Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate the day-to-day schedule, keeping technicians and veterinarians focused, organized, and on task while adapting to patient & client needs
- Lead and support the Internal Medicine technician team through training, mentorship, and example
- Perform advanced Internal Medicine nursing care, anesthesia monitoring, diagnostics, and procedures
- Manage patient assessments, triage, treatments, hospitalization, and follow-up
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records and communication logs
- Deliver and review estimates, discharges, and treatment plans with clients
- Cook with and review estimates, discharges, and treatment plans with clients
- Coordinate with doctors, CSRs, and hospital teams to ensure smooth daily workflow
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergency and critical-care situations
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, safety, and hospital protocols
Requirements
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (credentialed strongly preferred or equivalent experience)
- Specialty or advanced clinical experience; Internal Medicine strongly preferred
- Prior leadership, supervisory, or lead technician experience
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to remain calm, decisive, and compassionate in high-pressure situations
- Familiarity with Ezyvet & Smartflow systems preferred
- Experience with endoscopic procedures and advanced imaging modalities, including CT and ultrasound
- Schedule flexibility, including flexibility to assist or work in other departments in the hospital if needed
