About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring Veterinary Technicians to work in their busy Emergency and Critical Care department in Los Angeles, CA. Two schedules are available: Saturday/Sunday (part-time or full-time, morning or midday shifts) and Friday-Monday (2 PM - 12 AM).

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert the veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Show patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Proficiency in anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to triage and manage emergency cases.
  • Knowledge of digital radiography techniques.
  • Understanding of normal vital sign ranges.
  • Experience with blood pressure and other vital sign interpretation.
  • Ability to perform CPR and initiate resuscitation.
  • Proficiency in medical math and medication administration.
  • Experience with phlebotomy and catheter placement.
  • Mentoring and training skills.
  • Patience and empathy for clients.
