Veterinary Technician Responsibilities
- Triage patients and take their vitals, and acquire patient history and other information from clients.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures.
- Discuss treatment plans and estimates, and payment options with clients.
- Acquire cephalic, saphenous, and jugular blood samples.
- Insert IV catheters, and monitor anesthesia, ventilators, and fluid therapy.
- Process specimens in the in-house laboratory and submit specimens to outside laboratories.
- Enter patients' service charges into the computer database and keep accurate patient records.
- Explain patient instructions to clients and share educational materials.
Veterinary Technician Requirements
- 1+ year of work experience as a veterinary technician.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong affinity for animals.
- Outstanding people skills.
- Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
- Undeterred by being scratched and bitten by patients.
- Team player.
- Associate degree in veterinary technology from an accredited school. (Preferred, not required).
