Veterinary Technician

Job Responsibilities

• Affords assistance to the veterinarian during examination of animals, obtaining basic history and vitals on all patients.
• Provides restraint as needed to ensure safe and effective work.
• Maintains patient vitals during surgical procedures.
• Prepares and administers medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
• Performs routine dental cleanings under the supervision of the veterinarian.
• Obtains radiographs using proper positioning and techniques.
• Carefully monitors and manages the recovery of animals post-surgery.
• Conducts laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces to aid in diagnosing and treating animal health issues.
• Collects, prepares, and labels samples for laboratory analysis.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and materials.
• Provides the veterinarian with necessary equipment and instruments.
• Fills prescriptions accurately and labels containers appropriately.
• Prepares animals for surgery, including shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters.
• Maintains cleanliness of examination rooms and treatment areas.
• Collaborates with veterinarians to ensure efficient care and timely movement of animals through the clinic.

• Ability to handle and control aggressive animals.
• Physical and emotional stamina required for work in a veterinary clinic setting, including the use of euthanasia.
• Professional and courteous demeanor towards staff and clients.

• Active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, judgment, and decision-making skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
