Job Responsibilities
- Affords assistance to the veterinarian during examination of animals, obtaining basic history and vitals on all patients.
- Provides restraint as needed to ensure safe and effective work.
- Maintains patient vitals during surgical procedures.
- Prepares and administers medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Performs routine dental cleanings under the supervision of the veterinarian.
- Obtains radiographs using proper positioning and techniques.
- Carefully monitors and manages the recovery of animals post-surgery.
- Conducts laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces to aid in diagnosing and treating animal health issues.
- Collects, prepares, and labels samples for laboratory analysis.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and materials.
- Provides the veterinarian with necessary equipment and instruments.
- Fills prescriptions accurately and labels containers appropriately.
- Prepares animals for surgery, including shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters.
- Maintains cleanliness of examination rooms and treatment areas.
- Collaborates with veterinarians to ensure efficient care and timely movement of animals through the clinic.
Skills And Basic Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle and control aggressive animals.
- Physical and emotional stamina required for work in a veterinary clinic setting, including the use of euthanasia.
- Professional and courteous demeanor towards staff and clients.
- Commitment to continuous learning and personal growth.
- Active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
