About the role
The Fremont Police Department - Animal Services Division is recruiting for the position of Veterinary Technician. The Tri-City Animal Shelter, part of the Fremont Police Department, is responsible for protecting lost and injured animals and promoting responsible pet ownership.
Responsibilities
- Manage a population of approximately 25 dogs and 30 cats housed in the shelter or in foster.
- Partner with the veterinarian on housing, sanitation, animal husbandry, medical care (including rabies quarantines) and behavioral care.
- Provide direction to animal care staff.
- Provide preventative care as appropriate for species, including spay/neuter, and counsel potential adopters on medical and behavioral conditions.
- Partner with the Animal Services Supervisors on inventory management, shelter records and controlled substance recordkeeping.
- Support Animal Service Officers with medical/behavioral triage and forensic investigations.
Qualifications
- Experience in euthanasia or high volume spay/neuter.
- Experience in interpreting and enforcing animal related laws.
