Responsibilities

  • Affixes bandages and sutures to animals as directed.
  • Administers medications and drugs to animals as directed.
  • Assists in restraining animals during examinations and procedures.
  • Observes animals for signs of illness and reports findings to supervisor and/or veterinarian.
  • Organizes veterinary appointments for sick or injured animals and recheck appointments.
  • Maintains medical records and shelter data.
  • Performs euthanasia under supervision and assists in performing euthanasia.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years' experience working with a veterinarian.
  • Familiarity with surgical procedures, medications, sterilization, and anesthesia.
  • Six (6) months of experience in public contact work or as a kennel worker in an animal care facility.
  • State Certified Veterinary Technician preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License (must be maintained for duration of employment).

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Skills

  • Knowledge of animal care and handling techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of veterinary medicine and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and public contact skills.
